Taliesin, Rayne

Pen Name: Beccasai
E-mail: Yaoi_kitten (at) hotmail.com

Character Information

House: Lagamore Shagiel felt that it would be too dangerous to put him in Pantralus since they have their hands full already... Full Name: Rayne Cernunnos Taliesin
Age: 17
Birthday: May 1st (Beltane)
Blood Type: Pure Blood Wizard family. O-
Height: 5'8

Year: 3

Appearance: Rayne is about 5'8 with the pale skin of someone raised in London and a slender, graceful build. Not looking like much, but wiry as hell and rather well toned. His hair falls almost to his lower back, usually tied back in a loose ponytail with chin length bangs framing his rather pretty face. (Don't call him pretty, he'll attack like a rabid cacti) His hair has been very recently dyed a vibrant green, the dye blending with his natural color to create a million different undertones and highlights. His eyes are extraordinarily effervescent green, almond shaped with long, dark eyelashes; black eyeliner thickly penciled in underneath. His ears are pierced six times each (his right ear has a chain running from an upper earring to the lowest, then dangles down with a Celtic knot on it), his left eyebrow is pierced with a black barbell, his right eyebrow has two small silver rings and his navel is pierced, he also has a tribal tattoo running under his right eye. He usually wears comfortable dark blue or black jeans with copious amounts of patches and rips in them, the well worn fabric shaping wonderfully to his long with a belt or two slung loose around his waist. As for shirts, Rayne has the largest collection of 'nerd-wear' one could imagine, from the traditional 'star wars' t-shirts, to the odd political satire or the social humor (i.e. 'homosexuals are gay') of course he also has a large collection of band shirts (Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Flogging Mollyetc) and 'nice clothes' as well. Hes usually seen during class with a white dress shirt on, wrinkled, un-tucked and rolled up at the sleeves, open with one of his many t-shirts residing beneath... When it's cold he tends to wear a retro-ish brown leather jacket. He's always wearing a candy necklace along with his cross, a spiked wrist band, a studded wrist band and plenty of vividly colored bracelets on one wrist and the same odd collection of bracelets on the other as well as a 'pride' band; Along with an assortment of rings and junk. He has a Shamrock tattooed on his left hand by his thumb and a tribal-ish wolf on his right shoulder blade; a Celtic knot on his lower back and a Celtic band around his right biceps. There is an old Irish phrase tattooed on the back of his neck (Spirbhean ghligheal lainn). Ask him what it means if you want. Also, a Celtic cross tattooed on the left side of his rib cage. He has several scars and such from fights and sports.

Notable Traits: He can sing well and plays the violin, tin whistle, Bodhrn and acoustic guitar. Since his older brother is deaf, he is also well versed in sign language. He always carries a small silver flask with him (yay alcohol) and at least one pack of cigarettes (at all times). Hes actually quite superstitious as far as good luck charms go (he has a rabbit foot, the clover on his hand, a horseshoe, and other weirder lucky trinkets in his possession... including lucky socks... O.o). He hates thunder and lightening with a passion (it scares him shut up.) and doesnt like being out in the rain (it makes him cranky) Oh hes allergic to cats too.

Personality: The boy drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney and swears like a sailor. His character is compelling yet occasionally borders on overconfident and at times a bit too sarcastic. He's fairly blunt (to the extent of brutal honesty, so dont ask his opinion if you dont want to hear it) and tends not to think things completely through before acting or talking; being more of an emotional, instinctual person. This bit of his personality makes him spontaneous, to say the very least; always spur of the moment, if not a bit spastic... though he prefers the term 'expressive'. But no one would ever mistake him for stupid, whether proven through his school work of his dry, biting sense of humor, Rayne is unquestionably quite clever. Another slightly off-putting attribute of his would be that he doesnt really make friends easily, considering most people have a hard time getting past his hostile, slightly daunting exterior. Because of this Rayne keeps mostly to himself and can be skeptical and unreceptive around people he doesnt know. A lot of the thoughts he chooses to voice at these times are negative or sarcastic, making him the kind of person where you cant take what he says to heart. Its not that hes trying to be mean in most cases; it just comes out like that sometimes (unless he is trying to be mean, which, lets face it, happens). plus theres also that Irish temper of his... which has gotten him in trouble many times in the past, mostly when talking to the Muggle police (And that football riot he started... and those other times at the bar *trails off*) Despite his flaws and initial impressions, he really is an interesting person to have around and be friends with, even with his nasty mouth and sometimes equally nasty temper (Especially when he's out of coffee and smokes). Around friends hes outgoing and more playful; and can be charming as hell and sweet as sugar if the circumstances call for it. Actually, hes frequently the life of the party. When he is fond of someone hes faithful and much more pleasant to be around, his behavior becoming laid back, friendly and just on the whole, nicer.

History: Rayne was born in Kildare Ireland on May 1st during the festival of Beltane, a very significant Celtic holiday which heralds the arrival of summer. Because of his birth date he was given the middle name Cernunnos in honor of the Celtic god known as the horned one (Or more commonly, Pan). He belongs to a family with mixed roots of quite famous and influential Druids and ancient Shamans known throughout most of Europe, dating as far back as King Arthurs court. His line is said to have passed down the ancient knowledge and wisdom his ancestor (Taliesin himself) stole from the Goddess Ceridwen. This is of course, all myth and legend. None the less, both blood lines have been turning out brilliant and well noted wizards for centuries. His parents are, however, just run of the mill and competent wizards; not wealthy or special by any means or known for much more than their family lineage. Rayne spent most of his childhood growing up in the small and antediluvian village of Kildare; learning magic from those around him and living a happy and fairly simple life well, as simple as any adolescent wizards life could be; especially when ones father is a registered Animagus. At the age of 10 his father, Amergin Taliesin, was given a position in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic in London. The family begrudgingly moved from their little town to the big city where Rayne spent the rest of his youth and early teenage years.
As one would guess, the city was a far different place and it influenced Rayne in an overwhelming manner. He didnt really blend in with any crowd until he became fascinated with what remained of a slowly vanishing punk scene. As he grew his eccentricities evolved around what he experienced and the crowd he fell in with, who were admittedly not the most wholesome people in the city. While his relationship with his mother remained unswervingly strong, Raynes companionship with his once ever present father deteriorated and resulted in a well expected mutiny. Rayne became less sociable towards those who werent his mates (particularly the upper crust wizards who had a penchant to pick on him awfully) and spent most of his nights out and took part in more than his fair share of bar fights and other such activities.
Now once upon a time on a dark and hallow night, a 13 year old Rayne wandered the streets of London with a group of his mates. They swayed back and forth as they sang and stumbled towards the next stop on one of their typical pub crawls, loudly recalling their blow by blow story of the bar fight they had just left prior. At some point the group stopped on account that one or more of them really had to piss, and decided to make themselves comfortable sitting outside the Southwark Cathedral. Standing not 5 away from this group of bawdy teens was a large dog, simply studying the goings on as it would appear. No one paid it any mind, since it was just a dog and stray dogs were a common thing in London. Rayne adjusted his decrepit shirt, taking in the damage done to his person, not to mention his clothes. Surprised and alarmed sounds caught his attention, along with an onslaught of curses. Rayne looked up just in time to see the wolf as it landed on him.
Some time later, minutes or hours, Rayne woke up on the steps of the Cathedral sprawled out in a pool of blood some his, most belonging to the warm carcass still resting atop his midsection. Unexpectedly, for perhaps the first time, his friends had proven truly useful and had overcome their own drunken panic in order to kill the animal before it managed to injure Rayne any further. The eventful night ended with the boys once again sitting in a pub. Despite his connections with the Wizarding world, as well as his fathers position in the Ministry, Rayne had never seen or believed in Werewolves before. It wasnt until his first unfortunate change that he realized something was terribly wrong.
Obviously it was then that both his parents were alerted to the situation. While his father was furious that he hadnt spoken of the attack sooner, Raynes mother quickly went to work contacting the Head Priestess of her former Druid coven back in Kildare. Both families sent advice and remedies from all around Europe in hopes to cure their cursed kin, but nothing seemed to work. Rayne spent nearly two months locked in a room to prevent him from hurting himself and others during his erratic and quite painful changes. Finally, Andraste Iceni -his fathers great grandmother- was the one who was able to provide the teenager some sort of sanctuary from the poison that ran in his blood. She provided the family with an ancient potion recipe that had been passed down to her from her sister-in-laws aunt, a Germanic woman who was rumored to have werewolf blood in her own family. This Potion is much like one that other forced werewolves are prescribed by the appropriate sources. It must be taken once a week to prevent change when the werewolf is provoked or tempted to transform. So far, this potion has been a steady and reliable remedy to Raynes little problem. However, after a year or so of this routine Rayne grew confident enough to skip a week once and a while and try to embrace this new part of him. He would allow himself to change into a werewolf ((He becomes a sleek silvery white wolf, about the size of a Great Dane.)) and under the watchful eye of his familiar, Nuada, he would wander the countryside for a couple days at a time.
As one would expect, Rayne doesnt like to talk about the fact that hes a werewolf in fact hed much rather no one knew at all. Its not that hes afraid of what people will think or how theyll treat him, he just doesnt like that aspect of his life and really thinks its nobodys god damn business but his own. He figures it is his curse to tolerate and cant bring himself to perceive it as much more than that. This curse also caused his moods to depend far more on instinct and his behavior to shift once again at his young age. Secretly hes terrified of what may happen if he ever lost control of himself to his animal instincts, but hed be damned if he let anyone else know that. He has come across one or two other werewolves in the last 5 years, but most dont associate with him... if not because he isnt a pure blood, then because he is known by the English wolves as the one who killed the matriarch Kali, who was the she-wolf that made him.
Recently his father pulled some strings with the school he graduated from and had his youngest son transferred from his current Wizarding School in London to the more remote Mt. Shastina Academy, the school that both his parents graduated from. Needless to say, Rayne remains extremely unimpressed and is once again having a hard time adjusting.
