Online Archive ~ Some Reactions

is a very simple creative sharing matrix for e-Creative Practitioners and associated individuals & organizations from all over the world to share their works, visions, aspirations, experiments and communiqués, etc., on a common platform that can be distributed, retrieved and archived for the future.

Since January 2000, this has taken the form of a periodical CD-gazette we call The IDEA [Indian Documentary of Electronic Arts], which addresses, focuses upon and is distributed free to about 1,000 identified e-artists and associated individuals/organizations around the world. Copies of the gazettes are thus globally 'archived' in hundreds of different locations ranged from institutional libraries through to the personal collections of all sorts of e-artists. They are also used as teaching resources by several design colleges in several countries. However, this page of my personal hobbysite is only "about" the project.

There is certainly some more text, including some reactions, below, but to view the original gazettes online if you must, and if you can (very-very heavy pages, very kindly hosted by the incredible e-music pioneer and composer Laurie Spiegel in NYC), go here.

NOTE: The IDEA and the incredible growing archive of original e-creative materials it brings together for future students and researchers is mentored and stored by The Academy of Electronic Arts since January 2005.

The pages linked out below are adapted from the gazettes, with dummy links and music-bars.

below: some of The IDEA CD-faces:

circulation begins October 2, 2004

The IDEA seeks to address all forms of Computer-Based Creative Practice (CBCP) into the future, from imaging through audio, video, design and 3D, to creative software/hardware and even arts presently inconceivable. Featured artists generally write of their work and themselves in the first-person, with accompanying images and audio/video, which often adds up to presentations equal to, and even better in many ways, than either a conventional exhibition or a book on the subject. Format is plain-HTML, and all incoming digital materials are archived for future students and researchers in 'original' received form (generally CD).
