 Today you will collect information on life before the Pilgrims landed on North America.   Find out which tribes were located in the Plymouth area and how they led their lives before the encounter.   
Click on the links below to find the answers to the following questions.  

What does the word "Wampanoag" mean?  
Why do you think the tribe was called "Wampanoag?"
How did the Native People treat the land and animals?
What type of economic system did the Native People use?
Who were some of the Wampanoag's Native neighbors?
Were the Pilgrims the first European people the Wampanoag's had ever seen?  
    





                                                  
Souvenirs

 Use what you have learned today about the Wampanoag and their neighbors to create a travel brochure for Southern New England before 1620 from the Native People's point of view.  Keep in mind the beliefs of the Wampanoag tribe.  What type of people would they want to attract? 
Look at some of the sample brochures at the Souvenir Center.
