Griffin & Annee A sturggle to live. A struggle to endure. A struggle to love. Two worlds crossing, chaos ensues. Two worlds joining, chaos reigns. Two hearts beat. One survives.
Griffin never knew who his parents were. He had been an orphan since before he could remember. He was found by a wandering family that couldn't and wouldn't take care of him. They simply brought him to the next town and left him on the doorstep of the church. Griffin was passed from family to family, never sleeping in the same bed for longer than a night. Everyone had taken pity on the poor boy who had lost both parents at such a young age, but not enough to give him permanency. When Griffin was six, there was no one left to care for him, no one willing to take him in. He was a large boy for his age, already close to five feet tall. He was strong and could do the most strenuous work needed, but it still wasn't enought to win him a bed to sleep in or a place to call home. Griffin wandered, searching for someone to take him in, usually only finding desperation on the faces of the people he passed. Hunger reigned supreme throughout the land, leaving little for Griffin.
One day, the young Griffin happened upon a cottage that was home to an aging spinster. Gwendolyn took him in with thanksgiving. She had always desired a child, but had been denied her wish due to the stigma she carried. She was known as "Witch" by all, yet Griffin did not call her that. Finally, someone wanted him and all she asked for in return was for him to call her "Mother". Griffin continued to grow bigger and stronger with each day, lending his physical greatness to assist with the many chores on her small piece of land. Gwendolyn loved him and cared for him, teaching the ways of magick during the day, placing protection spells over him during the night. One day, in a fit of anger at yet another crop failing from the drought, Griffin looked up into the skies and yelled at the powers that be. Suddenly, a strong wind picked up and clouds began to gather. At that moment, Gwendolyn knew there was more than just strength harnessed within the young boy she had rescued. When Griffin was thirteen, he lost the one person who had ever truly cared for him. Gwendolyn had seen her death coming in the rune stones and knew it would be a catalyst that would lead Griffin to his destiny. In the days prior to her demise, Gwendolyn secured Griffin's future by passing along all her books and spells and knowledge to Griffin. Finally, the day of her death came. It started as any other day; the sun was burning the last of the dew off the fall leaves and there was a crisp breeze in the air, hinting at a chance of rain later in the day. It was on this breeze that the riders came. There were six, dressed all in black, shadows where faces should be. Griffin had sensed their coming but was too young to understand the dire warning entwined within the feeling. By the time he reached the cottage, it was too late. Gwendolyn's tortured body lay still with death. Griffin saw the men laughing and taunting; even in death, they saw fit to torment the woman they had been ordered to kill. As Griffin's anger grew, so did the clouds, boiling and thundering, filling with blackness. The men grew silent and fearful as the wind began to blow heavily, at first just knocking the treetops together. Then, with a loud crack, a tree fell, crashing down upon one of the six. Another tree began to fall as lightning streaked from the clouds. A bolt crashed to the earth, striking another man down. The remaining four began to panic. Their horses began to buck and snort, crazed with the scent of the men's fear. One man fell and was trampled under the thrashing hooves. Griffin commanded the elements to do his bidding without even realizing the power he was calling upon. A great rift began to form, crossing his world with Annee's, and Annee was witness to the chaos ensuing.
Annee lived a rather unobtrusive life. She was the sixth of eight children, completely ignored by her parents and her siblings. She had no playmates and had to entertain herself. She loved the outdoors and would often sleep outside, rather than be ignored within. Gaia took pity on the young girl and embraced her, showing Annee secrets that Gaia did not reveal to less inclined beings. Annee listened to Gaia and followed what Gaia told her. She learned how to manipulate and bend the normal boundaries surrounding nature. One day, while learning from Gaia, Annee felt the hairs on her arms stand on end, signaling the coming of a storm. As the winds picked up and the trees began to sway, she saw a tear in the fabric of her reality form. Through that rip, she first laid eyes on Griffin.
