Griffin & Annee: Part II A struggle to live. A struggle to endure. A struggle to love. Two worlds crossing, chaos ensues. Two worlds joining, chaos reigns. Two hearts beat. One survives.
Griffin's body began to tremor from the exhaustion of calling upon the elements After all, he had never tapped into this source within him before. The men continued to run from Griffin's wrath, but they were becoming successful in their flight. As Griffin realized he was unable to gather the forces to kill the remaining three men, he felt the failure start to overwhelm him. He could not avenge Gwendoyln's death and her murderers would get away. Just as Griffin fell to his knees in frustration and despair, a young girl appeared out of nowhere.
Annee couldn't believe what she was seeing. The boy must have immense power to command the elements to kill! As Annee continued to watch, she saw Griffin getting weaker. The storm was not as powerful as it had once been and the tear between their worlds was growing smaller. There was no one in her world who needed her, who cared if she existed, who even noticed if she existed. And the boy in that world clearly needed her. With that final thought, she made her decision and she squeezed her way through the opening from her world into his world.
Annee placed her hand on Griffin's shoulder and closed her eyes, allowing her power flow out of her and into him, giving him the strength he needed. As the storm grew more fierce and more powerful than before, lightning flashed and streaked across the sky, illuminating the darkened forest. The wind had reached torrential strength and Gwendolyn's killers knew their time was up. One man purposefully fell on his sword, prefering to take his own life than be killed by Griffin's wrath. Another man was picked up by the heavy wind and impaled on a broken tree branch. The final man ran for his life, shouting curses and prayers just before the the lightning struck, shaking the ground with its stength and setting fire to a bush near the fleeing man. The fire sprang from bush to shrub, encircling the terrified man, devouring his body even after his screams of pain had fallen silent with his death. Griffin fell prostrate on the ground, too weak to move. Annee knelt next to him, placing her hand upon his back. Annee felt the darkness creeping into her conscious as the last remaining energy she carried flowed into his body. Annee wondered if this is what it felt like to die just before the darkness consumed her in its entirety. Griffin gently lifted up Annee's lifeless body and carried it into the cottage. He didn't know who she was or where she had come from, but he was indebted to her. As he nursed her back to health, he made a promise to always protect her and never allow such a fate to befall her as it had Gwendolyn. As the years passed, Annee and Griffin became very powerful magi. They studied the old books that Gwendolyn had left Griffin and they experimented and practiced and listened to Gaia. Griffin had made Annee his mate, enabling them to tap into each other's powers whenever they might need it. There was still much to learn as they did not have the opportunity to exchange information with others as Griffin and Annee were isolated. They had no need or desire to leave their home until Annee discovered that when she stepped through the rift on that fateful day, it had set in motion an ancient prophecy that foretold the end of their world.
The heavy canopy of trees overhead made Annee's solo journey through the forest seem as if it were night. The crisp autumn air gave everything a surreal, almost two-dimensional look and feel. Annee's breath came out in short puffs of fog in the coldness. She could feel nature speaking to her, letting her know that winter was arriving much earlier than usual. Annee made her way down to a small brooke and began gathering the spongy moss that grew along the shore and coated the small rocks within the water. It was very potent, making it beneficial to a new spell Griffin and she were concocting. This moss would allow them to see outside their forest sanctuary to surrounding villages and towns, giving them the benefit of travel without having to brave the unknown. As Annee made her way home, the wind picked up with a ferociousness and began tearing at her clothes and tugging at her hair. It grew bitterly cold, making her shiver. Annee paused for a moment to call out to Gaia for warmth during her return. Gaia ignored her and the wind continued to nip at her skin, prickling at any exposed hairs. She continued on her way, becoming more disoriented as it began to rain. Calling out to Gaia for a light to show her the way home worked as well as her earlier request for warmth. Annee grew scared. The cold was seeping into her pores, enveloping her. Her eyes began to droop in the exhaustion that comes with hypothermia. "Annee!" Griffin called sharply through her thoughts. "Annee! Wake up. Come to me as I am waiting." Annee tried to ignore his insistent voice. She was so tired. She only wished to sleep for a little while. Griffin felt her reaction and became very fearful. He called upon Gaia as he grabbed several blankets and headed out to rescue her. Gaia paid him no heed. Griffin wandered searching for Annee, his demands to Gaia for assistance being unmet. Griffin felt the frustration and fear building as Annee stopped responding to his calls. He was running out of time and Gaia would not help him! It was not time for Annee to go. She was to live a long time with him. Why was this happening? Griffin passed the brooke where she had gathered the moss earlier in the day. He could sense that she had been there and picked up on her trail. He began to follow her path, looking for her and calling out to her both mentally and vocally.
