Volume 2, No. 1, October 1980
Pages 1-16
I realize that Bernice included many birthdates in her information, but I will not include any dates for those that I do not have a death date for. Times have changed since the 1970's and this is the Internet afterall! Please email me personally for any dates that appeared in the book or the newsletters. Sorry for any inconvience that this may cause.
Starting with this newsletter, the format was changed. It now was going to be about 16 pages in length and the funds received would determine the number of issues printed each year. This newsletter contained a picture of Edward and Dollie Winegart Shackelton on their 60th wedding anniversary, corrections and additions to the 6th division-6th section of the book, letters, obituaries and the first contact with the Wintermute family.

Letter from Mrs. Patricia Gee (dated 3 August 1980)
Patricia wrote that she had secured the will and estate inventory of Richard Shackleton (p. 115 in book)
"Matha is mentioned in the will as a daughter of Richard. There is some confusion because of crossing out the word "and" whether the daughters are: Elisabeth, Sarah, Martha and Jane. It would seem that there were two-one who married to Wm. D. Johnson (line Patricia is interested in) and one married to a man named Lawrence. Another posssiblitiy is that Martha Jane was actually the Mary Jane listed in the book and that Lawrence was an incorrect recollection of the husband's name.
The will also supplies the name of Benjamin Shackleton's wife as "Catherine Cummins" -not Gummins, and we can add that Benjamin predeceased his father.
Finally, William is never mentions as a son in spite of the fact that he lived until 1879. That seems curious to me-the other children mentioned pretty much verify the names which are recorded in the book. We can also add that Richard died between Jan 1, 1839 and March 13, 1839, the date of the estate inventory.

Bernice wrote that she was so happy for Patricia's research work on this Richard's line because he is assumed to be the brother of our Benjamin the first.
