I remembered the first time walking through the unruly spine area of St.Gabriels Secondary School during the 1997 Orientation Day. As a 13 year old choosing a CCA at that time, I suppose on would not think too deeply about what would be taught and what one would learn from joining the CCA. I joined the Corps because of a simple reason-the ever-presentable blue uniform. But little did I know that I was in for one of son. The most amazing experiences in my life.

Being in a uniform group, physical training executing commands are part and parcel of our daily workout. No doubt about it, the training is definitely tough and of course , self discipline is a very important criteria in the Corps. Shouting and scolding are inevitable from the senior cadets. One might then ask, why make yourself  suffer? Personally, I feel that by going through the ordeals, it will make me a better persons in is quiterms of character. I always believe that senior take certain actions with certain reason and therefore , I had no doubts about what we were being asked to do. Even if they are in the wrong , learn from their mistakes and not repeat them when you become a senior cadet yourself in the near future. Thats how one becomes a better person.

Later being appointed as the Company Sergeant Major of the unit, I began to learn more than just self-discipline but also the ability to detect and rectify mistakes. Being a leader , I am not just in charge of  he junior cadets but also my felloe colleagues. Balancing between authority and  friendship proved to be difficult  at first . Gradually , I learnt authority is not by oppressing others wit your rank but being able to maintain the harmony both the junior cadet and fellow colleagues. All of us being teenagers ,resentments build up rather fast and this is quite common among my fellow colleagues and myself. But being a leader, Ive got to cast away the unhappiness and bring back the harmonious atmosphere among my colleagues. Its is a tough job but I learnt a good lesson. Sometimes inevitably, I had to use my authority to make certain event happen and I feel very bad bout it. So one really good advice is say Sorry. This word works wonders in the Corps.

There is just a whole list of experiences and it is impossible to list them out all on this page alone. Definitely there are both good and bad times to the fullest and learn from the bad times as much as possible

A leader should be far-sighted. Sees the objectives. Leads the Corps
