The post is intended to give youths the opportunity to learn about firefighting through classroom education and hands on training. Members may also have the opportunity to participate in ride-alongs with the Springfield Fire Department.

Training covers various aspects of firefighting including incident command, search and rescue, RIT (Rapid Intervention Training), fire behavior, safety, equipment selection and use, fire extinguishers, fire suppression, SCBA (Self-contained breathing apparatus) and ladders. Check out the pictures to see some of what we have done so far.

Members are active in helping other community programs which benefit all citizens in out area.

To become a member you must meet the following requirements:

  • 14-20 years of age

  • Must have completed the 8th grade

  • High school graduates must be enrolled in secondary education, either full or part-time status

  • Grade point average of 3.0 based on a 5 point scale (C average)
