Dave has been the director of the South Fraser Community Band for the past two and a half seasons. As new music director he brought his community stage band Third Stage into the South Fraser family.
Dave brings to our podium over 27 years of experience as a high school music educator. He is presently the Music Director at the new Sullivan Heights Secondary School in Surrey now in its second year. Previous schools include Sir Frederick Banting Junior Sec., D.W. Poppy Sec., Abbotsford Jr. Sec., Cloverdale Jr. Sec. and Lord Tweedsmuir Sec.
His high school groups have consistently performed at the highest levels in local, regional, national and international settings. Highlights include gold medals at in all categories at MusicFest Canada, strong showings at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, invitations to the prestigious Festival of the Pacific Basin in Honolulu and most recently, performances at the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover Germany that were reported to officials in Ottawa as being responsible for bringing Canadas entertainment ranking up to #3 at the exposition.
The South Fraser Community Band under Daves direction received a gold award at the Coquitlam Music Festival in Category 500 from adjudicators Dr. Martin Berinbaum of U.B.C. and Dr. Gerald King of the University of Victoria.
His direction for repertoire includes a very wide range from show and movie themes to jazz to the classic repertoire of Bach, Holst, Vaughan Williams and Grainger. Technical requirements range from grade 3 to grade 5 level with strong emphasis on stylistic concepts and precise vertical clarity.
Dave would like prospective members to know that he believes strong and memorable musical performances are achieved with clear understandings between players and the podium. The result is great performances that are achieved within the realities of busy adult lives.
