Candidate Rules

To all you hopeful Candidates for the upcoming hatchlings: Following is what I hope is a helpful note to clear up any questions or misconceptions you might have about your status and duties in the weyr during this interesting time.

1. Candidates do not need to sign in to the Weyrwoman. She has enough to do with the running of an entire weyr to take time out to listen to everyone's story. No, that's a job for the Candidate Master. Go and tell Meyghann and Latia all about yourself! Include helpful information such as history of all your allergies and illnesses.

2. Candidates are not weyrlings. (hint: weyrlings have dragons already, candidates do not) After the hatching, if you are lucky and Impress, you will need to see the Weyrlingmasters.

3. Candidates have chores, see WLMs L'vel or Gwenaline to find out what section you are in, and which horrendous task is yours to perform. It will probably be disgusting and dirty. Don't make them mad. They have a way with finding punishments to suit the crime.

4. Candidates are expected to obey the rules of conduct that bind any member of the weyr. If they break these rules, they will be considered as unworthy candidates, and could lose the Privilege (not a right, it's a privilege) to Stand on the Sands on Hatching Day.

5. Candidates may not stand if they are ill, injured, pregnant, or in any way physically unfit to withstand the potential rigors and dangers of the hatching itself. Candidates may not stand if they are insane, unconscious, or in any way judged to be mentally unfit to be a companion to a dragon. Fighiting is a sure way to lose your Candidacy, if the WLMs see fit.

6. A special note on Falling Skies Weyr Candidates: In the first few turns after the Weyr opened, all Candidates were brought from the North, either sent down because those Weyrs had too many, requesting to try again in the new location, or through being Searched by a Falling Skies rider. Very few Candidates are being chosen from among the locals, since most of Searchable age are needed to help with the production of crops and care of herds.

Ok everybody, do you know who you are and where to go? Please contact us (not the whole yahoogroup!) if you have any questions about this whole thingamabob! We'll be more than happy to answer. =o)
