Napster vs. Metallica
What's up with Metallica suing Napster over their lost revenue and copyright violations.
Is Metallica, Lars Ulrich in particular, so greedy that they need to try to rid
the world of something as great as Napster and free online trading. This once
proclaimed "band of the people" are now showing that when the cards are down they
are nothing more then a group of hypocrites.
Fuckers got me kicked off Napster.
Metallica claims to be helping all of those poor starving bands, but the mass majority of those so called bands are pro-Napster. All Metallica is doing is helping the record companies keep CD prices astronomical and making life for the starving student difficult.
I mean without Napster people might actually buy some of those really shitty albums
just so they can get that one song they like. Personally I wouldn't waist even
$1 on one of those crappie CD's. If anything Napster will force record companies
to put out albums that are full of good or at least decent songs. Albums where
the groups spend a good portion of time writing the songs and gets them so they
sound perfect. By doing this record companies will put out a better product and
people will actually want to go and purchase the CD.
See, record companies, it's that easy.
If this all happens then maybe the awful trend of making that one hit surrounded by the other crap they call music come to an end. But first Napster has to win in court. And if the judge in their case is to stupid to rule for Napster, then they should take it to the Supreme Court.
Did you know VCR's went threw the same thing when they first came out. TV stations sued the makers and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court. The TV stations said the same things as the record companies. That people will have movies and shows to view for free and that they would lose money. Well, when it got to the Supreme Court they ruled for VCR's, saying that once aired the shows were okay to tape.
Now look at VCR's. Those very same companies doing the suing are now making millions
on rented movies and other things. And it changed the movie industry for the better.
So if these record companies can come up with a compromise and not act so stubborn,
maybe they will realize they are sitting on a boat load of money if they handle
things right.
