880Aud is the wife of Olaf, the local troll slayer. She happily keeps his home, and raises rabbits to give away to the locals. Their house has become infested with bunnies and causes her to begin to fear them. She discovers that Olaf was being unfaithful with a "load-bearing bar matron" and shes begins to practise witchcraft in order to punish him. Among other things, she turns him into a troll. D'Hoffryn, the leader of the Vengeance Demons, approaches Aud, pleased with her work. Having no friends or family to cling to, she accepts his offer and is given a new name, Anyanka. She pledges to punish all men who deserve it, deciding that they all deserve it.
approx1567Anyanka meets Dracula, and they 'hang out' a little. Anyanka enjoys his company and remembers his evil fondly even in her later life.
Before Crimean War Anyanka befriends Halfrek, a new vengeance demon, the two have a competition during the Crimean War.
1905Anyanka and Halfrek terrorize a large group of men in St. Petersburg, Russia. Halfrek points out Anyanka's lack of interest in the human world, including a revolution that she (Anyanka) is somewhat responsible for. Anyanka simply states that her work, vengeance is life. Vengeance is all that she is.
Dec1998Anyanka senses an enormous thirst for vengeance, coming from Cordelia Chase in Sunnydale, Callifornia. She arrives at Sunnydale high and takes on the persona of Anya, a student. She befriends Cordelia in order to grant her wish. Cordelia wishes that "Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale". Upon granting this wish, Anyanka alters the entire world. without a slayer to protect the hellmouth, Earth is in a hellish state. Rupert Giles succesfully discovers that the world is in its state as a result of a vengeance wish, and summons Anyanka. After a struggle, Giles destroys her power center and renders her powerless. The wish is reversed and order is restored.
1999Anyanka, now human and with the name Anya, continues to plead with D'Hoffryn for the restoration of her powers. He refuses, and she storms off. Anya discovers a spell that might allow her to conjure her power center. She enlists the help of a local witch, Willow, claiming that the spell is simple and harmless. Their first attempt frightens Willow, and unbeknownst to her, the spell results in the alternate-world version of herself arrving in this reality. Buffy forces Anya to help return the vampire version of Willow to its proper dimension. Anya, desperate for a date to the prom, mostly because of her attitude towards men, decides to go with Xander, and enjoys herself somewhat, but he does not. Anya learns that there will be an ascension in Sunnydale. She provides Buffy with what knowledge she obtained, being the only living person who has witnessed one. She then flees, fearing for her life. Anya returns to Sunnydale and decides to build a relationship with Xander. They grow closer and become more committed to each other.
2000Anya injures her arm and realises that she may have as few as 50 years left to live, she is frightened by this mortality until Xander comforts her. Anya is ecstatic when Xander professes his love for her.
2001Anya creates the false name "Anya Christina Emanuella Jenkins" to hide her past from the visiting Watcher's Council. After the death of Joyce Summers, Anya breaks down and sheds her first human tears. Xander proposes to Anya, and she excitedly accepts. Anya narrowly escapes death after pushing Xander out of the way of some rubble. Buffy dies and Anya is as devastated as the others. Anya assists in ressurecting Buffy, and feels guilty when it is revealed that Buffy was in a heavenly dimension. Xander and Anya finally announce their engagement to the others. During a visit from a musical demon, Xander and Anya express their doubts via song and Anya sings about her excitement relating to her future as "Mrs. Anya Christina Emanuella Jenkins Harris".
2002Anya excitedly continues to plan her wedding. When the happy day finally comes, Xander's fears of a future in which he is abusive get the better of him and he leaves Anya at the alter. A heartbroken Anya accepts a tempting offer from D'Hoffryn, and becomes a Vengeance demon again. Spike, who was just dumped by Buffy, and Anyanka take comfort in each other's company and have too much to drink, which leads to the two "moving on" on the Magic Box table. Xander and Anyanka's friends discover her new identity, and thus, she becomes alienated from them. Halfrek opens Anyanka's eyes to the fact that she hasn't granted any wishes since she revived her role. Anyanka then tries extra hard to grant wishes. She revokes one of her spells at the request of her former friends when a worm monster that she created in response to a wish wreaks havoc. She then begins to grant wishes more regularly. A humiliated girl at a frat party hastily makes a gruesome wish against 12 frat boys, who only somewhat deserved it. After conjuring a Grimslaw demon to rip out the boys' hearts, Anyanka is completely guilt-ridden. Buffy kills the Grimslaw demon and then decides to go after Anyanka. The two fight, with constant interference by Xander. Anyanka asks D'Hoffryn to reverse her work, and he says that he can only do it if he sacrifices a Vengeance demon. Anyanka agrees, assuming her life is intended. Instead Halfrek is killed, and Anyanka is stripped of her powers. Human once again, Anya is left to figure out who she really is. She confesses that she has been clinging to anything that came along throughout her life. Anya returns to her role of providing Buffy with demon knowledge, amongst her friends.
2003Anya's guilt surrounding Buffy's resurrection is intensified when she learns that the arrival of the First Evil and the subsequent vulnerability in the slayer chain are a result of Buffy's new life. Anya points out that a potential slayer's life has only two possible ways of ending - "short brutal life" or "reeking of un-fulfilled potential". Along with Xander, Dawn, and Andrew, Anya briefly fears that Giles may be dead and only appearing as a manifestation of the First Evil. Anya is very jealous when Xander has a date, but then has mixed emotions when she finds out that his date is evil. When Xander and Anya's would-be-anniversary comes along, the two finally have some closure and a night of break-up sex. Xander is stabbed in the eye, and Anya has difficulty reacting to it. Anya, along with the whole gang briefly turns on Buffy, in favour of Faith as a new leader. Xander and Anya have sex for the last time. Anya talks to Andrew and reveals why she has decided to stay and fight in this war, because when there's something that really matters, humans fight, they never quit, and so she decides that she will keep fighting too. During the final war, Anya's hatred of bunnies inspires her to slaughter many Turok-Han as well as Harbingers. She defends Andrew's life and dies saving him. Her life is over, and it is finally clear who Anya really was, she was a selfless fighter, and she died to save a human being.
