| One very significant relationship that Anya experienced was that between her and Olaf. Olaf was a Troll Slayer in Sjornjost, 880. Anya, then called Aud, lived with him until his infedelity drove her away. This gave her intense inner turmoil and embittered her towards men. She turned him into a troll in a fit of vengeance. | Possibly the most significant of Anya's relationships was her life with Xander Harris. Anyanka met Xander at Sunnydale High, in 1998, where she was posing as a high school student. After she lost her powers, she found herself wanting more, the pressures of teenage hormones were driving the 1120-year-old ex-demon crazy. She soon found qualities in Xander that appealed to her, and began to pursue him. They went to the prom together, but Anya later left town due to impending danger. After a summer apart, Anya returned and pursued Xander again. The two began to have regular sex. Before long they found themselves falling in love. In 2000, Anya and Xander proclaimed their mutual love and their relationship grew deeper. She found that he had made her believe in love once again. Anya often struggled with Xander's best friend, Willow, who often got in the way of their relationship. Xander proposed to Anya when they feared that the world might end. When Glorificus' portal threatened their lives, Anya pushed Xander out of the way of some debris, and let it nearly kill her rather than risk Xander's safety. Anya happily planned her wedding to Xander for nearly a year, before the big day came. Xander's fears got the better of him, and he called off the wedding. Heartbroken, Anya returned to her demon ways. Months later, Anya found herself human again, and she and Xander managed to mend their relationship into a very close friendship. One year after what would have been their wedding, Anya and Xander attempted to sort out their feelings, and had sex again. When yet another apocolypse begins to loom, the pair find themselves once again making love. Anya dies in battle, and Xander is numb with sadness at first. | Although the relationship was not explored fully, there was a connection between Spike and Anya. They often comforted each other during times of mutual heartache. When Xander and Anya had hit a rough patch, Spike and Anya drowned their sorrows, as Spike was still reeling from the loss of Drusilla. Later, after being abandoned by Xander during their wedding, Anya turned to Spike for some comfort. Spike had recently been dumped by Buffy, and the two decided to "move on" on top of the Magic Box table. | |
