Selaiyur Hall is one of its kind. It was founded in 1937, more than 66 years ago and named after the old Selaiyur Forest of which our campus formed a part. There is an essential difference between the common hostel system and the Hall, because one has a personal relationship with everybody. A fresher is expected to participate in all the activities and follow all the traditions of the hall too. Traditions set the foundation stone in a fresher's character it allows himself to set aside his own personal interests and mould himself into a perfect gentleman. The traditions and the activities of the hall combine together set the traits in the fresher that in future he can stand on his feet on any grave situation. He is also expected to cultivate the habit of reading all notices which are put up in the mess.Another specialty that Selaiyur hall was having when it started was trains were introduced between Tambaram to the city for the convenience of the resident students.

Rev. G. C. Martin was the first warden of Selaiyur Hall in the year 1937. The girls' hall i.e. Martin Hall has been named after him as he took the initiative in its foundation. There have been 11 wardens in Selaiyur including the current warden Mr. C. J. Mathew Tharakan is the first General Secretary. Mr. A. M. S. Ameerudin is the first Chairman in the year 1963-64.

There are 5 blocks in the hall named A, B, C, D and E. Every resident is given a single room. The first years are given room downstairs. The second years and third years are given rooms upstairs. The third years are given special rooms which are bigger than the single rooms. These rooms are given to the Chairman and the cabinet, Mighty seniors (who have resided in the hall for 5 years), Ex-Cabinet members, Block captains, Appraisal Committee Convener and the Financial Committee Convener. The rest of the rooms are given on the basis of the amount of dedication and work the resident put in for the hall and its activities.
