| Just when I think I'm finally leaving Exeter, I get a job there, working for Reuters. And so I continue to keep my little toe in the Radio waters, and do a show on the weekends. Born Sleepy was this show, which ran from September 200 to June 2002, for the most part Sundays 9-12. Tom Davies remained as my sidekick as we larked about on a Sunday morning. I think it was probably the best I'd done yet. The Show In the tried and tested tradition of Seddonism, Born Sleepy centred around studio chat and a mixture of unscripted quality items, only to be interrupted by a varied mix of great music. Features included: Smack My Pitch Up Films that should have been; Tom is given the length of 3 songs to come up with a pitch for a film based on the title of an existing film. Stressbusting We make a relaxation tape live (over ambient music), to calm worried minds, using metaphors stretched to breaking point. And another thing Member of team rants about something that has been particularly annoying them. The Gallery The weeks new music releases reviewed, purely by looking at the picture on the cover. Mark's Cousin Reviews Reviews from um... Mark's Cousin, of often very abstract things, like "Summer". Hannibal Lector would stand in for him sometimes. Rabbi Williams Celebrity advice from the Rabbi of no determinate ethnic origin. Local Tourist attractions Reviews of the finest that Devon has to offer, based on their hilarious advertising materials. James McNally would normally phone in to tell us he'd actually been there. We also got in on the action of the FM '00 RSL when Born Sleepy was on Saturdays 7-9am. The show was aimed at people that forgot to turn off their alarm clocks from the previous week. More of the same from me and Tom, only at a stupid time in the morning. An exciting prospect for the show was that we finally saw the station turn into a full time low power FM station, broadcasting all around the city. Towards the end of the run, Tom and I fromed the hip hop supergroup: Born Freaky Stylers - Fatboy Stomach Collective. We layed down 3 prime joints: Hoe Deep Is Your Love Little Hoe Peep and Green Eggs and Ham. You can download Green Eggs and Ham and listen back to it in full technicolour here! |
