| After 7 years of producing our performances regionally we had the interest of producing them internationally. Since one of our members is Mexican-Canadian and an active curator for Harbourfronts Latin-American festival bringing artists from Mexico, we decided to establish contact with the National Arts Centre of Mexico and produce a Binational event. This production would allowed us not only to present our work, but also exchange with local artists through workshops and produced a show with one of the most prestigious Contemporary Mexican Dance companies Serafin Aponte Danza. We presented, on three sold-out shows, two of our pieces and a joint piece with this Mexican company. We also taught a 3-day workshop to the students of the Faculty of Dance with unique exercises we have created that talk about the richness of an interdisciplinary approach to dance and the inspiration from the site. The National Arts Centre of Mexico was established in 1994 and is one of the most acclaimed contemporary universities and cultural centres of Latin America. It has 5 Faculty of the Arts, 22 scenarios including 5 main stream theatres, a TV broadcast and hosts international residencies and festivals. The place is designed to foster innovation in performance and to support new relationships between artists, students and public. Their 40-acre site in the heart of Mexico City attracts over 15 million visitors every year. Visit www.cenart.gob.mx |
