Hand-to-Hand Combat
| Class X5 was trained in the art
of combat, all forms and variations. The soldiers were first taught through example,
following instructors' orders and commands. The soldiers were then periodically
paired off to fight each other; gender made no difference. This training was always
conducted over mats; the soldiers wore sneakers and loose clothing during
training. |

Tracking | Convicts from Death Row were often used as guinea pigs in
tracking exercises. The convicts were given a gun, knife and head start. If they
made it to the perimeter fence they would be set free. If not, they would be
returned to Death Row. Instead of being captured, one convict was killed by the X5;
the reason is still unknown. It is undetermined whether this event was a factor in
X5-493 becoming a serial killer. He injured and displayed his victims the same way
this particular convict was. |

Under Water Breath Control
 | Class X5 was trained to hold their breath under water for a
minimum of four minutes. One of the soldiers' ankles was chained to the bottom of
a tank, preventing them from surfacing too soon. Upon reaching the four minute
mark Colonel Lydecker gave the okay for a technician to release the chains and the
soldiers swam to the top. The X5 known as "Jack" often had trouble holding his
breath for the entire four minutes. |

Weapons | Class X5 received extensive weapons training. This class is
qualified to handle and use any firearm they are given. Weapons with live rounds
were used during training exercises, several of which were conducted in the woods
of Manticore. During one forest exercise an X5 was killed due to friendly fire. How
and why this incident occurred is unknown. |

Other Training
|
|
Class X5 also received training in the
areas of electronics, espionage, field medicine, telecommunications, and stealth
maneuvers. Class X5 also has the ability to create mental blocks. They can trick
their minds into forgetting what they know, including their own barcode number,
preventing them from revealing vital information should they find themselves
captured and subjected to torture. |
