Question # 6: How Can I Escape God’s Wrath?
Ø
Fortunately for us, God loves us so much that He is
“not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
§
To
“repent” means to change your mind and turn away
from your sins; it’s not enough just to feel sorry
for your sins (2 Corinthians 7:10)
§
In
order to escape God’s wrath, it is essential that we
repent of our sins.
§
However, if I just repent, I’m still left with all
the sins of my past…
Ø
From
the very first sin of man, God has demanded a blood
sacrifice for sin
§
In the
Old Testament, a lamb was brought to the temple and
sacrificed for a sin offering.
§
Today,
the temple no longer exists because Jesus Christ
(God’s Son) came to the Earth to be the sacrificial
lamb that died for our sins in order to meet God’s
demand of a blood sacrifice.
>
He
paid the penalty for our sins so we didn’t have to;
He literally took our place on the cross so that we
could be forgiven of our sins.
§
To
prove He was God, and to prove that He had power
over the grave, Jesus was buried and rose from the
dead 3 days later just as He said He would (Mark
9:31, Luke 9:22, Matthew 16:21)—something that
neither Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius, or any other
religious figure could do.
§
Our
part: Believe that Jesus is all of who He says He
is, and Trust only in the finished work of Christ’s
death on the cross to save us.
>
We
must trust in Christ as we would a parachute: we
don’t just believe the parachute will save our life,
but rather we put it on and rely fully on it to save
us from the jump.
