Easter Sunday concludes the Paschal Triduum.  It is an ending and beginning.  Easter Sunday ends the solemn Triduum celebrations but begins the Church's rejoicing in the resurrection of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
CHRIST IS RISEN!  ALLELUIA!  Happy Easter to you!  Thank God we've made it again.  It was a long journey.  Where are we at now?  Now that we are free from all of our Lenten observances, how have we grown?  Have we been transformed?  Transformation is what Easter calls us to.  Nothing is the same after entering the resurrection.

Today we are left hanging in the gospel.  The tomb is empty. It has been changed from a cave of death to a witness of life.  The disciples are searching for the Lord as they never have before.  They are forever changed in the encounter with the Risen Jesus.  We have entered into the waters of baptism and have been called by - received our vocation from - the Lord.  We are changed.  He is risen and so are we!

We have followed the Lord on the journey and we walk it still today.  It is a journey of relationships and of the joys that life brings our way.  It is the journey of separation and anguish and pain.  It is our greatest moments and our hardest falls.  It is the journey of hope and the journey of sorrow.  It is the journey that is the Lord's Paschal mystery.  It is what we are called to live and what we are promised everyday of our lives.  It is our salvation.

We celebrate today not the return to life as it was.  This is not the Lord's
restoration - it is his RESURRECTION.  It's not the same Jesus we knew in his passion.  In fact, in some of the gospels, the people who encounter the Risen Christ do not recognize him.  Jesus has undergone a conversion.  Through his death, Jesus has chosen to enter ever deeper into the communal love of the Father.  He is forever changed.  He calls us to do the same.

Being able to sing alleluia and proclaim Christ risen from the dead involves recognizing the gift Jesus has given us.  Jesus has given us his life.  It is an eternal offering for our sins.  Who can be outside of the power of the Risen Christ.  It is a gift for everyone.  We now have the power to enter into the same Paschal Mystery.  We can transform our lives and the lives of others and enter into the love of the Father.  The stone of sin is forever rolled away!  We have nothing keeping us from the unconditional, life-giving love of the Father.  It is that same love which  raised Jesus from the dead, and that love raises us up each day of our lives.  It is ours!  It is our gift.  Do not be afraid of the emptiness of the tomb like the disciples once were.  Things can never be the same again.  HE IS RISEN!  AMEN!  ALLELUIA!

Peace,
Shaun Lowery
