"The Sam Dunlap All City Middle School Basketball Tournament is a great experience for middle school players and coaches alike.  I have put my team in this tournament the last two years and we finished 2nd the first year in a thrilling triple overtime game and 3rd last year in another very exciting tournament. The idea of an all city tournament is one that was long overdue.  Thanks to the efforts of the Tournament Committee, we have an event that is truly special.  The money generated from the tourney always goes back to the kids and this event is one I will continue to support."

Sincerely,

Sam Flowers

It is our pleasure to invite you to be a sponsor of the Fourth Annual Sam Dunlap Tournament, scheduled for March 14 & 15, 2008.  This  tournament brings together middle school athletes to challenge them in tournament play, while presenting the players an opportunity to compete with teams they don’t  normally get to play during a regular season.  In the first year, the tournament brought in 12 teams, and last year, the tournament was a resounding success with 16 teams, and a waiting list.  This year we are again planning a tournament of 16 teams.

The tournament is named after Mr. Sam Dunlap, who has been an inspiration and positive role model for the children of Colorado Springs since 1968.   Sam was born and raised in the Hillside neighborhood and has dedicated his life to educating, coaching, counseling, and mentoring children.  He has touched the lives of thousands of youth within the community, and continues to do so today.  Sam is also the founder of Samida House, a nonprofit group home for boys who require alternative placement.  To honor Sam Dunlap, the SDAC Committee, under the direction of Nathan Brown, has established the Sam Dunlap Annual Basketball Tournament.

All donation in excess of the operations costs of the tournament are distributed throughout the Youth and Senior programs at Hillside Community Center.  Programs include, but are not limited to; Pre-school, After-School for elementary and teen aged children, Girls of America, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Tutoring, Teen Nights, Adult and Senior activities, Computer’s and other classes.   (Please see the enclosed listing of all programs and the fee’s associated.)
