| Math The Teaching Company's "Basic Math" by Professor Murray H. Siegel. "This course introduces students to the basic concepts of mathematics as well as the fundamentals of more complicated areas. Basic Math is designed to provide students with an understanding of arithmetic and prepare them for Algebra 1 and beyond." Dr. Murray H. Siegel has a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education. Amanda also participates in a Bible study with the Civil Air Patrol Chaplain. Science - Apologia "Exploring Creation with Physical Science" Home Economics - First Semester: "Not Yo Mamma's Home Ec Class" at Young Chef's Academy. 7320 Broad River Road, Irmo, SC 29063 Instructor: Elizabeth Shingler Home economics will utilize math, science, and reading skills in a fun and practical way that children will use every day for the rest of their lives. The class will focus on Basic Culinary Skills, Food Safety and Handling, Kitchen Safety, Experimentation with Recipes, Manners, Etiquette, and Healthy Eating. The purpose of this class is to teach the basic fundamentals of culinary skills, kitchen safety, and nutritional eating habits, utilizing math, science, and reading skills. There will be a group community service project assigned that the children can decide upon and execute throughout the semester. The final project will be a meal or event planned, menus written, recipes decided, table set appropriately, food costs determined, and food prepared by the children. Parents will be invited to this dinner to enjoy their children't newly learned culinary skills. We will also have Guest Speakers from the Columbia Area throughout the year focusing on Nutrition, Safety, and Culinary Skills. Module 1: Kitchen Safety, Fod Storage, Food Preparation Safety, Bacteria Safety, and Knife Safety. Module 2: Table Setting, Menu Planning, Healthy Eating, and Manners. Module 3: Science of Cooking Eggs, Science of Bread, Science of Seasoning, and Science of Sugar. Module 4: Nutritious Snacks, Healthier than usual Desserts, Breakfast Boost, Lunch for a Healthy Lifestyle, and Delicious Dinner.
