handfastings
A handfasting is a Pagan wedding. Pagans are generally very individualistic and independent, therefore, there is no “official” handfasting rite.
Many couples compose their own ceremony using elements from various sources, in the belief all paths – so long as they “harm none” -- are equally valid and beautiful. I use a rite adapted from Ed Fitch's Magical Rites from the Crystal Well (click here to view the rite), but I'm willing to perform any handfasting rite a couple wishes.
Also, most handfastings are small and informal. Until the mid-19th century (and in many parts of the world, still today), all weddings were small, family affairs, celebrated at the bride’s home with a large, home-cooked meal. Only the wealthy held the kind of lavish weddings we are now told is the “norm.”
