CIDER
Ah, Cider : - )
Yes, it's a drink made from apples and it's ALCOHOLIC.
If you visit the U.S.A., watch out! What the rest of the world calls apple juice, in some places in the US they call it Cider!
There is Cider in the US, just make sure you ask for "hard cider" or "alcoholic cider" to avoid disappointment ; - ).
If you've tasted cider before and were not impressed then you probably drank the widely available commercial cider from the big breweries.
If that is all that is available, I personally think some of it tastes fine but if you're looking for the real stuff then try following the links below.
It can be a bit of a challenge in some countries to find any cider but at least it'll keep you busy and thirsty so you'll appreciate it that much more when you find it!
So what is Scrumpy apart from being my alias?
We used to call it the "rough stuff"!
MY basic definition, is that it's a 'purer' cider i.e. apples and not much else (unlike some of the ciders from the big breweries) and has a higher alcohol content.
From looking at a few 'serious' Scrumpy websites though, it's referred to as 'Real Cider' but unlike 'Real Ale' there doesn't seem to be a consensus of opinion on what 'Real Cider' actually is!
Anyway, the important thing for me is that it's one of my favourite drinks and the inspiration for my 'Scrumpy' alias : )
