Britpop tour of London!!!

OK, so we only actually visited four Britpop related places, but here are the photos anyway. (Sorry if they take ages to load.)

| First stop on our mission. The Good Mixer in
Camden. Caroline is so excited she's about to fly off. This place used to
be the nerve centre of Britpop y'know. We didn't go in because we're not
Japanese tourists, but Laura had a look through the window and there was
just one bloke having a pint. Former member of Menswe@r maybe?

| Food Records!!! Home to Blur, Idlewild, and
err, Matthew Jay. Laura found this by accident when she went to a photo
exhibition of The Clash. It's near to Burger King in Camden.

Two more notches on the nutter scale, but we did it more for the comedy
value really, honest. We found the address on the website for a company
who refurbished his house. Legend says that it's a former cheese factory!
It was quite funny trying to take the photos, because we didn't want
anybody to realise what we were doing. So we walked up the road on
opposite sides. When we both got in line with the house we turned to face
each other and quickly took a photo. Then we did the same thing walking
back down the road. Then we legged it.

These are the portraits of Blur (by Julian Opie) commissioned for the Best Of
album. The medium sized copies are on display
here in the National Portrait Gallery. That's right Laura, stand in front
of Dave, he's only the drummer. The little plaque said that each member of
Blur owns a smaller copy of their own portrait, which is quite amusing
really. I dunno, I'm just imagining them sitting in their living rooms
with a giant picture of their head over the fireplace.
Fun fact: The commercialisation of the images has provoked intense Warholesque debate about the relationship between high art and commercial art! Indeed. |

On closer inspection of this photo it appears the poor sod wasn't actually asleep. He was probably just listening to his music, and opened his eyes when the camera flash went off! Oops. |
