Jordan

The first family we started on our genealogy trip was the Jordan's of Harden County, Texas. The reason was after the death of my mother (Perry Lee Andress Scroggins) we found papers on a court case where the government was trying to take over some land that was once owned by Celia Abbygail Jordan. Since she never married or had children, the government had to find the heirs  to the land. The papers was titled "IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF TEXAS BEAUMONT DIVISION " United States of America (Plaintiff) VS 22.04 acres of land ,more or less, situated in Hardin County, state of Texas, and Celia Abbygail Jordan, et al, and unknown owners.Civil No. B-85-68-CA-MF-1525-170   TRACT NO. 152-02.The first few months of work went by finding a lot of information then came to a sudden halt. The earliest Jordan we found so far is John Jordan.

John Jordan was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina . His first wife was Mary Eliza Pelham( Pellum). Mary was born ca.1795 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina and died ca1838 in Georgia. John and Mary had eight children all but one born in Georgia. The first child was Elizabeth born January 20, 1815 in South Carolina . Elizabeth married Murphy Taylor.The first child born in Georgia was Jane on September 3. 1816  and she married Elias Patman. David M. Jordan was the first son and and was born ca. 1822 and married Susan Taylor Peason. John Daniel was born August 01, 1823, and he married Catherine Sutherland. My great-great- grandfather was the next child, Ambrose Pellum Jordan born September 06,1830 in Baker County, Georgia and his wife was Mary Frances Ann Collier. James Pickney Jordan was born September 25, 1832 ,and his wife was Rebecca Ivey Collier.  Mary Ann was born ca. 1833 and her sister Missouri was born ca.1836. The second wife of John Jordan was Elizabeth DeWitt and they had two children Nathan John born June 10,1840, he married Christina Skinner Daniel and Thomas Clayton born March 04, 1841 that married Mary Almira Hart.

Ambrose Pellum Jordan was born September 06, 1830 Baker County, Georgia and he died February 12, 1917 in Hardin County, Texas . His wife was Mary Frances Ann Collier was born Febuary12,1836 in Blakely, Early County, Georgia and died June 23, 1921 in Hardin County, Texas.The parents of Mary was Benjamin Columbus Collier and her mother was Mary Barr Grandbury. Ambrose and Mary first moved from Georgia to Tyler County,Texas, then to Hardin County, Texas. Mary Jane was born January 10, 1850 and died April 27, 1892 , she was married to John J. McAdams. Sarah Elizabeth was born October 08,1852 and died  November 08,1901was married October 11,1871 to Benjamin Lawrence Jordan ( different family group that moved to Hardin County). Ambrose Jackson was born May 06, 1857 and died June 25,1925 in Hardin County, he was married to Sarah Cotton on February 27, 1876 in Hardin County,Texas. Nathan G. was born February 06,1862 and died November 05, 1922in Hardin County,Texas, he married Nancy Matilda Langston January 26, 1881. Missouri was born 1864 and died 1907, she was married to W. Owen Williams. Perry M.  (my great-grandfather) was born1868 and died 1907, he married Drucilla Harrington September 29, 1889 in Hardin County. Susan I. was born January 17, 1871 and died January 24, 1949, she married Charles Langston November 19, 1891. Ida Lula was born March 15, 1872 and died September 12, 1949, she married Radford M. Jordan ( different family group that moved to Hardin County )on January 29, 1890. Rebecca  was born 1875 and died 1958, she married Joe A. Hatcher on December 23.1900. Celia Abbygail Born January 05, 1878 and died June 26, 1928. James Henry born June 22, 1880, and died July 03, 1951 was married two times first to a Mrs. Moon and second to Lila G. Bryant .

Perry M. Jordan (my great -grandfather) was born 1868 and was killed in a saw mill accident at Village Mills in 1895. The children of Drucilla Harrington and Perry M. were Eliza ( my grandmother ) born August 11, 1889 and died September 24, 1971 in Pasadena, Texas. She married Charles William Andress in Polk County, Texas in 1908. Lee was born 1890 and died June 24, 1955. He married Clara Adcock. Rufus P. was born 1892 and died December 17, 1967. Rufus was married three times. The last child was Lina ( Willie Perry) was born 1892 and died November 1927. She was married two times , first to Mack Allen second to John H. Clyburn.

Eliza Jordan born August 11, 1889, and died September 24, 1971  married Charles William Andress born March 12, 1891 and died April 16, 1978. The children of Charles and Eliza were Albert Andess born Febuary 02, 1911in Polk County and died October 16, 1978 Clear Lake ,Texas. Perry Lee ( my mother ) born June 29, 1912 Polk County,Texas and died February 03,1997 Deer Park, Texas, married Buford Melvin Scroggins ( my father) born October 27, 1902 in Carsicana, Navarro County, Texas and died November 16, 1969 Houston, Texas. The next child was Delma born october 23, 1915  and died 1943, she married Woodrow Diehl. Then came Viola born July 27, 1918 . She married first Charles Gloger, second Jimmie C. Williams, third Jess R. Perry.
