This is something I remember that my mother told me

My grandfather, Perry Jordan was Indian from his mother. How much I don't know, my mother and two (2) brothers showed a lot of Indian features, short legs, large body and black hair, short nose. The one sister was real white blonde with blue eyes. My grandmother was a very small person, Drucillla.Harrington was her name. My grandmother married again and had six (6) more children. A son, my brothers age and the youngest , a girl my age. She died when I was sixteen (16) years old so I remember her.
My mother, Eliza was oldest and her brother Lee, then Rufus and Lina.
My mother named me Perry Lee for her father and oldest brother. She never reckoned on some of the things that happened to me, a girl with a boys name and still having problems with the name.
My mother was born in Hardin County, near Silsbee, why they moved to Polk county where my Dad was I don't know, but mother said they lived in a log cabin without windows, and only one (1) wooden door. The floor was dirt, all the meat they had to eat was wild, bear, rabbit, deer, possum, birds, they trapped most of it because gun shells were hard to come by with no money. Grandmother did have a decent house on the farm after mama married my dad.
My mother could not read or write when she married. My aunt Lillian taught her to write her name and to write to number ten (10). Then she learned to read and write as we children went to school. She was a good manager of money and had a very sharp mind. She could read the bible and newspapers. I loved my mother and was the only one in the family that got along with her all the time. She and Dad were divorced after fifty (50) years of marriage.
