I am seventy-three (73) now and I do remember a few things myself. Issac Andress, my grandfather moved from Mobile, Alabama, during or right after the Civil War. He brought several Negro families with him as free slaves. If he settled in La Porte for very long , I do not know but my Dad was born there. However, he grew up at Livingston, maybe out on the large farm on the Trinity River.
"Smithy" my Dads mother had a young daughter out of wed lock, her name was Annie Mae. My dad had two (2) sisters, Lillian and Florence dad always said he was youngest but when he died I found out Florence was the youngest. Issac died when dad was sixteen (16) years old.
As I remember at five (5) years old, grandmother Smithy died, I can remember dad crying as the coffin was put in the ground.
Dad was eighteen (18) when he married my mother Eliza Jordan, she was eighteen (18) too. They lived on the farm on the river until grandmother died, Albert was six and a half (61/2) so they probably was twenty-five (25) or twenty-six (26) years old. My sister Delma was about two (2) or three(3) years old then. We moved to Montgomery, Texas where Viola was born and then to Katy, Texas when Viola was two (2) years old.

I was born at the farm in Polk County. When I was six (6) years old we moved to Katy, where my daddy was a rice farmer.
Buford was born in Navarro County just out of Corsicana. I met Buford when he came to work at Magnolia Oil Company, which was a pumping station near where we lived on a rice farm out of Katy. He came out there to work the Mans vacation, it took eight (8) weeks and I met him soon after he came there in 1929.
I married Buford Scroggins February 2, 1930 I was eighteen (18) in June, 1930 and Buford was 28.
