PESHAWAR: Dr Robina Gillani, advisor to the governor, has urged the people to work jointly with the government to make a human friendly environment in the city
She was addressing at a Book Launching Ceremony of "Peshawar Saddar, Tarikh kay aainaya Mein", written by a young researcher Imran Rasheed Imran. The ceremony was arranged in Khyber Medical College (KMC) here on Saturday. Sarhad Conservation Network (SCN) and Khyber Literary Club (KLC) of KMC jointly arranged the ceremony.
Dr Robina asked the masses to join hands for the promotion of literary work as well as the conservation of environment. "It was not only the responsibility of government to promote literary activities in society, but the learned people should also come forward for the task," she added.
She appreciated dedicated work of the author and said, "it was his courage and devotion that he compiled such an authentic book on history of the City".
Professor Zia ul Qamar, a renowned speaker, gave a detailed description of the book. "The book was a sort of encyclopedia, which covers all the major aspects of the cantt", he added. He encouraged the author and said that the book revealed the whole history of the Peshawar Cantt in a very soft and mild tone. "Although many books had been written on the history of the area, yet this book holds a significant place among them", he added.
Imran Rasheed Imran, author of the book disclosed that there were a total of 45 cantts in Pakistan, however, he said that it was the first book on the history of any cantt. He elaborated the problems that he faced during the compilation of book. "I visited many civilians, military officials, politicians and other well-known personalities of cantt to support him, but I was ignored at every door-step. It is a pity that a book about the Cantt is being launched in University Campus", he added.
Later on, he thanked Dr. Murad Ali for his support in publication of the book. He also thanked Major ® Nawaz Khan, Professor Mohammad Abbas and Gohar Ali of daily Jang for their sincere support and co-operation.
