Chad's Summary: While SG-1 prepares for their next mission [later to be seen in the episode Scorched Earth], the Stargate Malfunctions. The malfunction prevents SG-1 from Proceeding with the planned mission. The team discover that the Stargate, lost at the bottom of the ocean [ in the episode Nemesis ], was not destroyed and is now in the hands of the Russians. After a briefing, SG-1 is dispatched to Russia to investigate. In Russia, the team meet up with Dr. Svetlana Markov (Marina Sirtis). The Russians obtained the Dial Home Device (DHD) from Egypt. As long as the Russian Stargate is active, the U.S. Stargate can not be used. The situation strands seven SG trams currently off-world. SG-1 parachutes to within walking distance of the Russian Stargate base over Teal'c's strong objections. Inside the base, they discover several dead Russian workers who worked on the Russian Stargate Project. Daniel and Teal'c investigate why and how the Russians died. Earlier, the Russians discovered a planet with a Stargate totally submerged in water. A sample of the water was taken and found to give off energy in the form of heat. Now, the sample of water is missing, and the Stargate is connected to the ocean world. Using a recon drone, O'Neill, Carter, and Markov discover a drowned man on the ocean world. Carter believes that by shutting down the recon drone, the Stargate will shut down as well. Using a Swedish-built Russian mini-submarine, Carter, Jackson, and Markov embark on a mission to shut down the recon drone. O'Neill and Teal'c look for the remaining Russian personnel. Meanwhile, the mini-sub begins to malfunction as the crew descend toward the bottom of the ocean. A fire breaks out which Jackson quickly extinguishes. Carter realizes that they are stuck in the water just like being stuck in mud on Earth. Meanwhile, O'Neill and Teal'c find a frozen Col. Maybourne in a freezer. The outside pressure on the mini-sub is increasing which may cause an implosion. Maybourne thaws out while the mini-sub tries to escape the ocean world to no avail. Maybourne vomits water, and the water goes into Teal'c. O'Neill and Maybourne take refuge in the freezer. He explains to O'Neill that the water is alive. O'Neill goes after Teal'c while Maybourne waits in the freezer. Jackson believes that the water is alive and that the water was only protecting itself from harm when the sample was taken from the ocean world. O'Neill tries to stop Teal'c from using the Stargate. He is unsuccessful, and Teal'c dials out. Meanwhile, the glass bubble forming the front window of the mini-sub breaks. Jackson, Carter, and Markov are enveloped by the surrounding water. After activating the Stargate, Teal'c vomits forth the water in the form of vapor which heads into the Stargate. Teal'c informs O'Neill that the water only wanted to return home. The water does not mean any harm. Jackson, Carter, and Markov return home.
