| HOW YOU CAN HELP |
| Figure skating is one of the most expensive sports in the world, unfortunately. Some say only equestrian events are more pricey - but then you have to have a horse! Why is it so costly? Here is a breakdown of Emily's current training costs: ice time - $545/month lessons - $1040/month ballet, modern dance, Pilates, strength, power skating, trampoline - $350/month competitions (airfare, hotel, meals, fees, etc.) - up to $2000/event, half dozen events per year That's the day-to-day expense - approx. $36,000/year - and we haven't even talked about skates ($1500), costumes and practice apparel ($1500-$1750/year), misc. expenses like skate sharpening, music editing, seminars, etc. (several hundred dollars a year). For competitions, skaters must pay for their own and their coach's travel, lodging and meals. |
