| Emily enjoyed competitive gymnastics before coming to figure skating relatively late, at age 8 1/2, and then she didn't have consistent private lessons until moving to Colorado Springs just before her 11th birthday. That year she made it to Junior Nationals just a few months after testing Juvenile. The next year, at age 12, she placed 5th at Regionals to become first alternate to JNs as an Intermediate (click on "Competitive History"). Last year as a 13-year-old Novice, Emily won 1st place in the Future Champions Series, Pacific Coast section. Emily now represents the Broadmoor Skating Club. She formerly represented the Boise Figure Skating Club but as for this season she's decided to compete for the Broadmoor Skating Club. Her primary coach now is National and International Coach Janet Champion. Since passing her Senior Moves in the Field test at age 12, she has begun taking ice dance lessons with Patti Gottwein. Because ice skating is relatively new to the Boise area, where Emily began skating, she has received a lot of publicity for her accomplishments, particularly after qualifying for Junior Nationals. She has been profiled by the local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations and has been mentioned in the Idaho Statesman and Idaho Press-Tribune numerous times. She was also featured in a Boise Family magazine article about Olympic hopefuls from the area. |
