Objects
Ankh - A cross with a loop on top, representing eternal life and resurrections, divine guidance and spiritual seeking.
Arrows - Divine intervention of both healing and killing power. Represents the direct path you plan to take.
Bowl - The universal womb. Represents nurturing and giving. Is useful for holding requests in petition Magick.
Box - With a lid, a female symbol connected with the subconscious mind and the unknown. Without a lid represents life and gifts coming to you, also the universal womb.
Breasts - Symbolise the source of life giving fluids from the Great Mother. Represent every day material needs being met.
Bridge - A link between heaven and earth or the conscious and subconscious minds. Represents a transition from one cycle to another or to a higher state of consciousness.
Bridle - A Symbol of control over the physical body and the emotional things that would motivate a person to react without clear thinking.
Caduceus - The staff with two entwined serpents around it. Symbolic of the axis of the world with the kundalini of the chakras entwined about it and moral equilibrium. It is an emblem of healing.
Candles - Lighted candles symbolise spiritual enlightenment. See colour meanings.
Cauldron - The vessel of rebirth and transformation. Symbolises primordial matter from which you can draw energy to manifest your desires.
Cave - Symbolises the womb of the Goddess or the entrance to the subconscious mind.
Chalice/cup - Rebirth and illumination. A filled chalice represents the bounty of life coming to you. To rid yourself of negative emotions and feelings, gently blow into an empty cup, mentally emptying yourself of your problems. Then turn the cup upside down on the altar. This symbolises you turning your problems over to a higher power to be solved and transformed.
Child - Symbolises the future as yet unrealised or the beginning of a new cycle.
Circle - Represents the return from multiples to unity, from time to timelessness. See also - Ouroboros. The circle is an ancient symbol representing oneness, for it has no beginning or end.
Clover/trefoil - A sacred emblem of the Triple Goddess (Maiden, Mother, Crone).
Cobweb - Represents the spiral which leads into the centre where matter is destroyed before being reformed.
Column/tree/ladder/obelisk - A connection between heaven and earth. Pictured as a ladder, column, World Tree, sacred mountain, obelisk of the sun god or tent pole of the shamans. A pair of columns signify the balancing of opposing forces.
Cornucopia - The horn of plenty in filled with fruits and vegetables symbolizes strength, abundance and prosperity.
Crescent - A Goddess symbol representing the world of changing forms which goes through a cycle.
Cromlech - Standing stones. For fertility, health and spiritual enlightenment.
Cross - An ancient symbol meaning much the same as the column. The arms can signify the four elements or the four cardinal directions. Associated with the Phonician goddess Astarte, the Greek deities Artemis and Aphrodite and the Aztec goddess of rain.
Crown - Symbolises the sacred marriage between the Goddess and Her consort. Signifies light, achievement, success and spiritual enlightenment.
Cube - Represents the material world of the four elements and stability.
Curl, loop, rope - Binding and unbinding, especially in a magical sense.
Curtain, veil - The veil represents the ethereal door between the worlds of matter and spirit. Seven veils were associated with the Goddess Ishtar and Isis. The veil between the physical plane and the realm of the dead is said to be thin and the time of Samhain.
Dice - Represents gambing with the Fates, taking chances (dicing with death!).
Disk - Sun emblem. Also signifies matter in a state of transformation and celestial perfection.
Door, gate, portal - Any door signifies the entrance to the path leading to spirit, the ability to pass from earth to the astral plane, a new talent of way of life and a separation of the physical and sacred. The two-faced Roman god Janus, deity of the past and future rules over all doorways.
Drum - Divine ecstasy in ritual. A mediator between heaven and earth In Africa it is associated with the heart.
Dwarf - A guardian of the threshold between conscious and subconscious mins and the guardian who protects us from being exposed to more than we ca understand or assimilate.
Ear of Corn - The disintegration of life followed by rebirth. Also germination, growth of ideas and fertility. Harvest deities include Ceres and Demeter.
Egg - The hieroglyph of an egg represents the potential seed of rebirth. The World Egg signified immortality and the potential for life renewal.
Eye - Intelligence, spiritual light, intuition, truth that cannot be hidden and judgement by the Goddess.
Fan - Femininity, intuition and change. An emblem of the Chinese deity Chung-Li Chaun, one of the Eight Chinese Immortals.
Feather, plume - Faith contemplation, reincarnation souls and change.
Flower - Connected with spring, rebirth and renewal.
Fountain - Associated with the World Tree. The water represents the life force within all things. Symbolises blessing, purification, wisdom, renewal and comfort arising from the divine centre.
Geode - A womb symbol similar to the cave.
