lifespan 5: Dan's Demise

Dangerous Dan
Refusing to take part in challenges and being short with his tribemates, Paleo saw no reason to let Dan save his energy while they carried him to the merge.  In a dramatic twist, Paleo demanded Dan's removal.  Their wish was granted as Dan was disqualified.

Dan's Doings
Dan started off as a good enough player, even getting himself into early alliances.  But by the end of the second episode it was clear that he was missing more challenges than he attended.  He made no confessionals or diary entries, and the Host commented that Dan was "failing to take part in anything to do with the game."

Some knew Dan as a strong player from other games, so what happened?  It is hypothesized that Dan tried to lie low, trusting his alliances to keep him safe.  Then as Paleo's immunity-winning streak continued he may have seen little reason to participate at all.

As for Dan's attitude, he had stated that he would be "outspoken" and create "drama" in the game.  Dan was short with his tribemates, essentially telling them to 'get lost' when they contacted him.  He may have realized there were other, tighter alliances, and was playing "the villain" in hopes of being taken to final two.  However, this brusqueness quickly wore thin with his tribemates.

Why Dan Got the Boot
Ultimately, Dan was disqualified because he could no longer physically participate in the game.  An extreme A-type personality, Dan may have been afraid that asking for help would only make him look more vulnerable.  But he had put himself into in a situation which was not going to get any better on its own.

What Could He Have Done?
Dan could have better prepared for the game and put in enough maintenance time to keep his position in the game.  He could have been more aware of the rules and the minimum participation quota.  Dan could also have improved his behaviour or balanced it with some positive energy — although this may not be a factor, for so long as Paleo continues winning immunity, all of its active members, however boorish, will be safe.

Who Else?
Had this been a vote, Paleo have only spoken with interest about one other bit of dead weight to cast off:

Emmanuel - Eman has participated in fewer tribal challenges than Dan.  But Eman made the most recent challenge while Dan missed the last two.  Moreover, Eman is friendly while Dan has been annoying... and it is much easier to vote for an annoying tribemate.

Conclusion
Every indication was that Dan no longer wished to play with his tribemates, and that he had grown contemptuous of the game.  This ill-mannered Survivor was eliminated.
