The
stages of adapting to a new country
I have
been told that the adapting in a new country is a bit like adapting
to marriage.
The
first stage is the honeymoon phase. Everything is new and exciting.
Grocery shopping becomes an adventure - so many new products to
discover. All the rain is wonderful - coming from hot and dry Africa.
Ironing is fun -it's a total new experience
yeah right
but you get the picture.
Then
reality starts to kick in. Omo is Omo
no matter what you call
it, your suspicions were right - ironing is just not fun and all
that rain stucks. It's during this stage that you will notice that
just about every sentence will start with "Back in the old
country
"
Hang
in there
it will get better again!!
Finally
the final phase kicks in
accepting your new country for better
or worse (vir botter of wors).
