Some tidbits about New Zealand
- New Zealand/Aotearoa, often called the Land of the long white cloud is situated in the Southwest Pacific Ocean and consists of two main islands as well as a number of smaller ones.
- The principal islands are the North and South Islands which are separated by the Cook Strait.
- The North Island has a mountainous center with many hot springs and volcanic peaks. It contains the country's longest river, the Waikato and the largest lake, Lake Taupo.
- The South Island is much more mountainous with the Southern Alps, which has some 350 glaciers, running across the length of the island. The major cities are.
- The North Island is much more densely populated than the South Island. There are more people in the whole of the South Island than in Pretoria.
- The major cities are Auckland, Manakau, North Shore and Wellington on the North Island and Christchurch and Dunedin on the South Island.
- Auckland is the most densely populated of 336,500.
- Wellington is the capital city.
