Saras (Saraswathi Hostel) BTech. Class of 1997

The Illustrious Saras Hostel Class Of 1997 at IIT Madras, India, is composed
of a wide range of people hailing from all corners of the country,
indeed the subcontinent. We have Sindhis, Surds, Biharis, Bongs etc. etc.
apart from the usual assortment of Mallus, Gults, Digs and Tams.

Our nicknames range from units of electricity to footwear to underwear to
ranks in armed forces. Our interests vary from J. R. R. Tolkien to
Ornithology to Naval Architecture. Our ages vary from the truly wizened to
the ridiculously young. Our carnal appetites vary from ����. but let�s not
get too obscene.

Most of us entered Saras as quaking freshies in the summer of �93 and left
as pickled if not seasoned veterans in the summer of �97. Although we
have all headed in various directions since, we�ll always treasure those
idyllic, responsibility-free days in Saras. At Saras, we learnt the joys
and sorrows of hostel life, the fine art of surviving in the most
inhospitable environments possible, and more than anything, how to live
life to the fullest.

To borrow the lyrics of an immortal group, "We are the champions, my friends.
And we�ll keep on fighting, till the end...Coz we are the champions.."
