The first classic 'adventure' game was Hunt the Wumpus, by Gregory Yob. In "Wumpus", you roam around a cave with connected tunnels trying to find the Wumpus and shoot it. The catch? You have only five arrows. The second was named Adventure, or Colossal Cave. Written by Willie Crowther and Dan Woods, this was the first "treasure hunt" type of adventure. Next was another classic game, Rogue, based entirely on symbols. Infocom was a major interactive fiction company, producing such favorites like the "Zork" series. Finally, there have been annual competitions since 1995.
