Some classes may offer more than one class in each level. Fore example, Collegiate Shag has two level I classes. Each class will teach different moves and techniques. The same things will not be taught in both classes. This will apply to all classes offered.

Balboa (Instructor: Denise Paulino)

Balboa is a Swing dance that was started in the early 1930’s by dancers in the Los Angeles area such as, Maxie Dorf, Hal Takier & Anne Mills, to mention but a few. The dance was named after Balboa Island in the Newport Beach area, which was the location of the Rendezvous Ballroom. The dance is known for its romantic closeness, fast & fancy footwork & effortless flow. This is a dance you perform to songs as slow as "Tuxedo Junction" or as fast as "White Heat!"

Collegiate Shag (Instructors: Michael "Sailor" Mizgalski & Tise Chao)

The Collegiate Shag originated in the South (New Orleans). It was popular in the early 1920's through the 1930's, and pre-dates the Lindy Hop with the college students. The kids loved this dance, because it was everything their parents "waltz" wasn't, It was fast, wild and fun. It was so popular in the mid '30's that the famous Harvest Moon Ball in New York City had an entire division devoted to it. Collegiate Shag in danced to a six count beat and It's moves can combine everything from ballroom to lindy. Anything goes!

Dean Collins' Shim Sham (Instructor: Denise Paulino)

The Shim-Sham is a line dance done to swing music. It was created in the early ‘30’s by Leonard Reed. The Dean Collins' Shim Sham is a version all on its own. Using the basic patterns of the original dance, Dean added a few syncopations of his own. A great footwork exercise!

Salsa (Instructors: Kelly Palmiter & Laura Berger)

Salsa is one of the hottest, and sexiest dances today. It's an 8 count dance done with styling
ranging from ballroom to cuban, and everywhere between. The main thing in Salsa is the music, the latin rhythm gets you on your feet and moving! Either done with a partner, or alone, it is as much fun to watch as it is to dance.

Casino Rueda (Instructors: Kelly Palmiter & Laura Berger)

Casino Rueda is Salsa done in a circle with multiple couples. You can have a group as small as 2 couples, or a group as large as the space allows (100 if you have room) One person is the leader and calls out moves, similar to western line dancing. You change partners frequently throughout each song. A great social dance, all the rage in the clubs.
