Economic
On the territorial area of the Pacific Rim, which is known as the Pacific Maritime Ecozone, there are many natural resources available.  Extractive industries - industries that take rw materials from the natural environment; also known as primary industries - extract the natural resources, which include, lumber, and minerals, from here.

Forestry
There are many trees in the Pacific Maritime Ecozone.  The large amount
of trees support many large forestry industries, such as pulp and paper and
lumber industries.  The availablity of lumber, a major natural resource of Canada,
in British Columbia allowed the country to get its majority of lumber from here,
and it is very good for Canada's economy.  It is an advantage of our economy
because other countries import lumber from us, which allow us to gain money
for our economy.  Due to clear-cutting forests, many trees are cut down.  If
do not plant a monoculture after clear-cutting, the amount of lumber would
go down.

Fish
Fishing is also another major natural resource of the Pacific Rim.  Also, it provided the economic base for European settlements in parts of British Columbia. There are many types of fish in the West
Coast of Canada, but the most important of these is the salmon.  There are five kinds of
salmon: coho, chum, pink, spring (chinook), and the most valuable of all, sockeye.  There also
includes herring, halibut, cod, flounder, red-fish, clams, and oysters.  As a result of overfish,
the fish population decreased.

Water
The marine part of the Pacific Rim is located in water - Pacific Ocean -, and the land
region of the Pacific Rim is located on the shore of British Columbia.  Either way, water is
nearby.  Not only does water act as a transportation route, but without it, human beings would
not survive.  However, due to the industries using the water as a coolant, and dumping their
wastes into the ocean, the water is polluted.

"
Trapping"     www.statcan.ca/english/kits/natur1.htm
Hunting/ trapping allows people to get fur and other materials off animals.  This is a type of natural resource because they are taken to make clothes, furniture, cloth, etc.  Without trapping, not all clothes that exist today will be present.
