Natural Resources
There are many industries in the territorial part of the Pacific Rim, known as the Pacific Maritime Ecozone.  Many extractive industries or primary industtries - industries that take raw materials from the natural environment - are found here as there are many minerals and natural resources found here.  Some manufacturing industries or secondary industries - industries that process the products of extractive industries into finished products - also exist here.  Lastly, many service industries or tertiary industries - industries that provide services needed by the extractive and manufacturing industries, and by the society in general - are found in the Pacific Maritime ecozone, usually in the metropolitans (big cities).

Extractive Industries
Logging Industries
For well over a century, logging and related forestry industries have been the economic mainstay of many communities in this ecozone.  Due to the extractive industries of lumber, over 2 million hectares of  the temperate coastal rainforest were clear-cut in the past 120 years.  Due to the constant extracting of lumber, it has changed the landscape dramatically.

Commercial Fishing Industries

The commercial fishing industry is another major player in the ecozone.  Both native and aquaculture stocks of salmon are especially prized.  Since the 1960s, the Sockeye, Pink, and Chum Salmon stocks have increased.  However, due to overfish, habitat damage, and natural factors,  the Chinook, and Coho Salmon stocks are low.  The contamination of water from the waste released from the pulp and paper industries interferes with the harvesting of shellfish, as the toxins tend to accumulate in their tissues.

Manufacturing Industries

Construction
There are many industries that transform the extracted lumber into furnitures, paper, etc. These industries are located close to markets, and in densely populated areas because they want to be near the peiople who buy their products.

Service Industries
Transportation
The Pacific Marine Ecozone - the part with water - is used to as a transportation route.  Since the earliest days, the Natives - the Haida people - pile their canoes along the shore of the west coast.  The area has been an important marine transportation route.  Nowadays, boat traffic  includes huge cargo ships, fishing vessels, ferries, and all kinds of recreational crafts.

Tourism (Water and Landscape)
A fast - growing industry here is water - based tourism, which offers everything from sea kayaks to multi-level tour boats for vistors to whale watch and look at the fantastic landscape.

Retailing, Office Work, Education, Health Care, Communication, Government, and Personal Services
The list above (the sub-title) are all forms of service industries.  They provide services for the area and can be found in this ecozone.  Most of them are found near people and in densely populated areas.
