Sao Paulo: Modern city, but with 450 years of history
Founded on 1554 by a
community of Jesuit parents, Sao Paulo was born
to be the economic and cultural heart of Brazil.
She is the pioneer in commerce, industry and
culture, something that must to the coffee
production that concentrated in century XIX.
1553.
Thomé de Sousa leaves and he substituted in the General Government by _Duarte
of Costa_. With the new Governor came some Jesuits, among the quaes
the famous José Anchietta_, denominated the _Apostolo of New Mundo_. Already with
Thomé of Sousa had come _Manoel of Nobrega_. To these dous Priests he the
Indebted Brazil of many and mui relevant services.
1554.
Recognizing the Governor General ambitious views in Jesuits,
he denies them his support. Jesuits retired for the South Brazil, and they founded on the ace
plains of Piratininga a population, and Collegio of Sao Paulo, from where
came the name of the city and province today

Casa do Grito, where Dom
Pedro I decided in favor of
independence for Brazil. To commemorate that moment,
the Paulista Museum was
