Kerala (or Keralam - കേരളം) is a state in South India, occupying a narrow strip of India's southwestern coast. Described by the National Geographic Channel as Paradise Found - Fifty places of a life time is enchantingly beautiful, covered with tall coconut palms. Its the land of Madhava of Sangamagrama who founded Kerala School which flourished in the 15th and 16th century. These mathematician-astronomers of the Kerala School were responsible for a number of mathematical breakthroughs, particularly in the fields of mathematical analysis, infinite series, calculus, trigonometry, geometry and algebra long before any of the European mathematicians. .
Kerala is a land of
rivers and backwaters
Kerala is a 560-km
long narrow stretch of land. At the widest,
Kerala is a mere
120-km from the sea to the mountains. Gracing one side of Kerala, are the lofty mountains ranging high to kiss the sky.
And
on the other side the land is washed by the blue Arabian Sea waters. The
land is covered with dense tropical forest, fertile plains, beautiful
beaches, cliffs, rocky coasts, an intricate maze of backwaters, still
bays and an astounding 44 glimmering rivers. (Parambiculam dam)
Kerala's exotic spices have lured foreigners to her coast from time immemorial.
