The story of Jesus' life is recorded in the four canonical gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These four books make up the main source of information we have on the life of Jesus. There are however other accounts in apocryphal literature as well as in the Gnostic gospels. Jesus is also mentioned many times in the Qu'ran and Hadiths of Islam. This page will use the four gospels however to tell Jesus' life story.
Prologue
Although it is a mere page in our Bibles, there is roughly a 400 year chasm between the actual events of the Old Testament and New Testament. These years are often called the "years of silence" because no acknoledged prophets are said to have ministered during this period. During this period the nation of Israel came under the rule of the Syrians, the Greeks, and finally in around 40 BCE, the Roman Empire. |
