Conjuration of the Venomous Asp

By Jason Tondro

Technique and Form: CrAn
Level: 25
Range: Voice
Duration: Diameter
Target: Ind.
Ritual? No
Req: None

This spell creates a single non-magical but poisonous snake. Use the write-up for the adder (echidna) from the Book of Mundane Beasts, but note that the venom is more potent. Ars Magica 5th Edition has rules for asp poison on page 180.

This spell is usually used in such a way that the snake is conjured either directly above an enemy (thus dropping onto him or her) or else in the enemy's hands or upon his or her body. This requires that the spell be aimed (see ArM5, page 86). The asp's Lightning Reflexes Virtue gives the startled snake an immediate attack on the nearest creature, but if the aiming roll misses then the snake lands at the target's feet and will attack the foot or lower leg.

Level Calculation: Base 10, +2 Voice, +1 Diameter
