The Belt of Lightening

By Niall Christie

Item Type: Invested
Physical Form: A finely-worked, brown leather belt with a silver buckle. It is actually the buckle of the belt that is enchanted.

Technique and Form: PeCo
Level: 55
Range: Touch
Duration: Sun
Target: Ind.

This effect destroys the weight of the wearer of the belt, making the target effectively weightless. The most obvious benefit of this is that the wearer will not fall if they step (or are pushed) off a cliff or out of a window. However, being weightless also poses a number of problems; for example, a weightless character who is struck in combat will be sent flying backwards into the nearest obstacle, which may cause damage if sharp or uneven, and if the character deliberately steps off a cliff or out of a window, but is carrying an object of significant weight (such as a sword or large rock), the weight of this object will drag them down to the ground, where cuts and bruises may again be suffered.

This item was invented by the infamous Verditius magus, Himinis the Mad. He created it at the behest of a nobleman who lived in a castle on a clifftop and feared assassination. However, he omitted to inform the nobleman of the potential dangers of wearing the belt in combat, and it was, ironically, while the nobleman was fighting a skirmish at the bottom of the cliff that he was struck by a mace that sent him flying into the cliff wall, where a sharp outcrop impaled him fatally. What became of the belt is unknown...
