Description and Background:

Rosalind is the daughter of a woodsman called Aescfrith, who has lived all her life in his humble cottage in the forest, looking after both him and herself in place of a dead mother whom she does not remember. She has become very self-sufficient, and like her father she prefers to keep her own company; she is shy around strangers and generally does nothing to draw attention to herself. Rosalind is, after all, just a humble peasant girl, and has no ideas above her station - her only aim in life is to look after her father in his dotage and then go off to live in a monastery when the Lord takes him into his keeping. What has never occurred to her is that she does not actually look anything like her father; Aescfrith is squat and coarse-featured whereas Rosalind is divinely beautiful and completely unaware of it.

Stranger still, not many people in the nearby farms and villages even know that Rosalind exists. Aescfrith has told no one about her, and she has managed the remarkable feat of completely avoiding attention. Of course, few among the local peasants dare to venture into the forest where she lives, but Rosalind has always felt safe there, as if there is something watching over her and keeping her safe, somewhere in the shady depths of the woods.

Customization Notes: Rosalind has a number of asterisked Virtues and Flaws that she is completely unaware of. If she is going to be played as a NPC it will be straightforward enough for the Storyguide to make them apparent when the time is right. If, however, she is to be used as a pregenerated player character, there are quite a lot of things about her that the player should not know. Rosalind is in fact the daughter and heir of a baron who was murdered by his evil brother, who would also kill her if he found out she was still alive. The supernatural entity that plagues her is none other than the vengeful ghost of her true father, and her Protection comes in the form of the village priest who hid her from her uncle when she was a baby and took her to Aescfrith. Needless to say, it will be much more fun for all concerned if the player knows absolutely none of this when the saga begins.
