Description and Background:

Laureatus hails from the north west of England and is the younger son of a landed knight, Sir William of Boulton. He grew up in his brother's shadow, which was no easy thing, for although he was as worthy as his brother, Laureatus was less loved. Whatever his accomplishments were, they counted for little compared to his brother's, and this gave Laureatus a fierce hunger for acknowledgement and respect. He got what he wanted in the end, but not from his vulgar family - it took an archmagus of the Order of Hermes to recognise his true quality. Exactly how Laureatus' prospective pater found out about his powers he does not know, but when Laureatus was eleven the archmagus simply strode into his father's hall and announced that he would take Laureatus as his apprentice if he desired. Laureatus made himself an outcast from his family, but he said "yes" with no hesitation. Thereafter he went with his new master, Archmagus Belisarius, to the covenant of Arx Arcanorum in the Loch Leglean Tribunal, there to commence his apprenticeship.

Belisarius is not only a mighty wizard but also the Exarch of House Tremere for the Stonehenge, Loch Leglean and Hiberian Tribunals. He taught his filius well in the art of certamen and has told him of the dangerous hedge wizards of Britain who once sided with the Order's greatest enemies, the outcast druids of House Diedne, and who now set themselves against his House. Laureatus intends to secure his reputation as a great magus and rise quickly within House Tremere by putting these wizards in their place.

Laureatus likes to win. He is relentlessly competitive and keen to prove himself to be the best at everything. This gives him a lot of dynamism, but it also makes him hard to get along with as he makes little secret of his ambition. He is always trying to outdo people, even those whom he likes, and he tends to see them in terms of how well they can serve his goals. Laureatus' aspirations are not especially noble, so he finds it easier to be manipulative and imtimidating than persuasive, inspirational or sincere. He takes it very badly when someone gets the better of him and stops at nothing to get his own back. He is not noble in defeat, and not especially noble in victory either. While Laureatus might have secret misgivings about his conduct, he will never admit this to anyone - showing weakness is something that he cannot allow himself to do. House Tremere expects better.
