Description and Background:

Carmina (or Mina, as she was called as she grew up, and which she hates) was an oblate, left on the altar of the local church by unknown parents. She was thus raised in the local Benedictine convent, where she quickly demonstrated both a talent as a singer and an uncanny sensitivity to the mood of people around her. As she grew older she was employed in the convent's library, where she showed a particular aptitude at translation work (even if she did insist on humming to herself as she worked), and of course in the choir, where her gorgeous voice inspired those around her.

Recently Carmina found herself becoming increasingly bored with the routine of convent life, and when she discovered that she could use her song to create and manipulate images, she decided that God had clearly marked her out for greater things. Eventually she tried to run away from her convent, but she was caught in the act by the convent's abbess. The elderly nun let her go anyway, but on the understanding that she should return to the convent if summoned. The abbess expects Carmina to return when she discovers what a harsh place the world truly is.

Carmina, however, has made her way to the covenant, where she is now working as a scribe while waiting for God to show her where she should go next. She is convinced that it will be a place where she will be called to make a real difference to the world with her song. In the meantime, she is happy to perform for the crude folk and the scholars who live at the covenant, though the latter seem for the most part unappreciative and only interested in what she can do with her song, while she wishes that the former did not ask her for drinking songs so often; such things are really beneath her...

Carmina is rather short, but slender and beautiful, with corn-blonde hair and warm brown eyes. She would like to think of herself as a sultry beauty, but her looks are too wholesome for that.
