| INVOCATION The rite of a person allowing a deity to reside within the corpeal body of that person. |
| INQUISITON Established by the papacy to try and condemn people for heresy, the Inquisition did not get under way until 1321. It began with Pope Gregory IX's Excommunicamus. In 1252, Pope Innocent IV, sanctioned the use of torture to gain confessions from suspected heretics. As the Albigensians disapperaed, this level of the Inquisiton subsided a bit. Then in 1542, Pope Paul III established the Roman Inquisition. He created the Index of Forbidden Books that were a danger to the Christian faith and ordered them destroyed. It is during this time that this court tried and condemned Galilieo in 1633. The Spanish Inquisition began in 1478, Its blood-thirsty hisory showcased the most foul and murderous man, Tomas de Torquemada, the first and most horrendous Grand Inquisitor. He is responsible for the murder of thousands of "heretics". The Inquisition finally subsided in Spain in 1834. |

| INITIATION The stages of full membership and participation in a religious coven. There are usually three steps in Wiccan initiations. Most initiates study for one year before taking the first stage of this process. The first is where an initiate is brought into the circle blindfolded, taught about love and trust, and receives the five-fold-kiss. They are then taught about working with ritual tools. The second initiation involves the initiate being taught the lores of the Goddess and taking a binding oath. They are given their first set of working tools, the scourge, and the ritual tools. The Third stage of initiation involves the bonding of the initiate;s male and female forces and the initaiate is allowed to go and create their own coven. |
