Each school and region will have
its own rules. These basic guidelines are what the judges at most science fairs
will look for. They will look for some, or all, of the following:
Project Design
- Is this an original project?
- Has
the problem been clearly identified?
- Have
you controlled the necessary variable?
- Has the background research
been carried out thoroughly?
Acquired Skills
- Do you have the skills to have
do the project without assistance?
- If you did receive assistance,
how much is your own work and how much is the work of others?
- Do you understand the science
related to what was carried out?
- Do you understand how the
equipment was used?
- Has the background research
been carried out thoroughly?
Project Data
- Was a journal or log book kept
to record your progress and data collected?
- Were the experiments repeated
several times to ensure validity in your research?
- Are the experiments clearly
set out and easy to follow?
Conclusions
- Was the data organised into
appropriate tables, charts and graphs?
- Was the data explained using
appropriate language and research?
- Was sufficient data collected
to support conclusions?
- Were conclusions made using
the data collected?
- Did you provide a scientific
explanation for your results?
Presentations - Written
- Did you prepare a complete
report?
- Was the display attractive and
well organised?
- Is the print clear and easy to
read from a distance?
- Does the display flow in a
logical order?
- Have you used additional props
to explain what you did?
Presentation - Oral
- Were you able to answer
questions about the project?
- Did you use the display when
discussing the project?
- Did you show an understanding
of what the science is all about?
